DR. BROKE

The A+ team was retained by a desperate doctor who lamented: "I don't have any money coming in!"

Practice assessment revealed a very busy and popular physician, in practice 20+ years. Despite a huge patient volume, the doctor still can’t pay his bills. He has no retirement and cannot afford life or disability insurance.

Fifty percent of the A/R is over 90 days. Nevertheless, the practice is depositing more in the bank than the doctor is charging out, per the practice management system. The manager is a family member who handles the money and never takes a vacation day. The doctor doesn’t review financial reports because they are “confusing” and he doesn’t have time.

There is no system in place to capture all charges. Co-pays are waived routinely, and collections have not been worked. The doctor’s coding is haphazard and largely based on guesswork. Insurance contracts have never been re-negotiated.

DR. NEW PRACTICE

A hospital administrator recruited a family practitioner and presented A+ with a start up situation. The physician was about to complete residency training and wished to begin seeing patients in his new private practice less than twelve weeks later.

A+ efficiently coordinated and implemented the startup, meeting the deadline of the target initial date of service. Particular attention was devoted to establishing proper medical business policies and procedures. Claims were filed on day one.  After 90 days, charges and receipts exceeded projections, 75% of appointment slots were taken, and the collection ratio for the practice exceeded benchmarks.

Subsequently, A+ worked with the physician and his staff in the first year of the practice to provide management support services.  Monthly analysis of practice operations and financials was conducted.  Recommendations for improvement and necessary training were provided following each evaluation.  

Today, the young practice is one of the most popular and successful medical offices in the area.
